Legal battle continues between Cliffs, Clarke

A giant mining drill was moved into place this week on the site of the Mesabi Metallics project in Nashwauk. Company owner Tom Clarke this week purchased 1,040 acres of land and rights to half the taconite iron ore below at the project site. Clarke said mining will begin immediately. Cleveland-Cliffs on Monday announced it has purchased land and mineral rights to an area near the Mesabi Metallics mine in a move that could complicate efforts to revive the former Essar Steel Minnesota project.
