NCAA women's basketball: Gophers draw Green Bay, Lindstrom

The Minnesota women's basketball team ended a two-year NCAA tournament drought when the Gophers were given a No. 10 seed Monday and will face a team with a Twin Ports flavor in the first round.

The Gophers (23-8) meet No. 7 seed Wisconsin-Green Bay (29-3) at 4 p.m. Friday in Eugene, Ore. The Phoenix are led by Superior native Jessica Lindstrom, who averaged a team-high 15.2 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.

The winner will face either second-seeded Oregon or Seattle in the second round Sunday.

Minnesota's 23 wins are its most wins since 2014-15, which was the last time the team made the NCAA field.

Green Bay, ranked No. 22, earned an automatic bid after winning the Horizon League Championship.

Minnesota owns a 7-6 record in previous matchups.

Connecticut (32-0) received the No. 1 overall seed and will open against St. Francis, Pa.

The tournament's other No. 1 seeds are Louisville, Mississippi State and Notre Dame. UConn defeated Louisville and Notre Dame in the regular season and lost to Mississippi State last season in the Final Four.
