Prep report: Cloquet wins twice at Hibbing baseball tourney

Cloquet pitchers shut down two opponents Friday in the Bugliosi Wood Bat Tournament in Hibbing.

Jon Baker tossed a five-hitter and struck out eight in the Lumberjacks' 5-2 win over Proctor, while Tim Pokornowski threw a one-hitter and struck out in six innings in a 4-0 shutout over Superior.

Pokornowski also drove in two runs and stole three bases against the Spartans.

Hibbing recorded a 1-0 shutout win over Proctor before losing 3-2 to Superior as the Spartans rallied from a two-run deficit.

Superior's Justin Reinkall tossed three hitless innings to earn the win.

The tournament is scheduled to finish today pending wet weather.

Esko 15, Carlton 7

Tyler Peterson and Ryan Nelson each drove in three runs to pace the Eskomos to the Polar League win at Chub Lake.

Esko scored nine runs in the fourth inning to put the game away.


Cloquet 6, Duluth Denfeld 1

Lucy Sinkkonen threw a five-hitter and struck out seven with no walks to lead the host Lumberjacks to their second Lake Superior Conference win of the day.

Cloquet also beat Proctor 9-7 behind Josie Steen's three RBIs.

Esko 4, Jackson County Central 3

Emilee Wilson tossed a two-hitter, struck out nine and walked only one as the Eskomos won after a long road trip to Jackson, Minn.

MLWR 10, Cherry 0

Ally Bode allowed only three hits in a five-inning nonconference shutout of the Tigers in Zim.

Dallis Kukuk and Bode each had three RBIs.
