Three injured in Crane Lake boat crash

Three people were injured when a boat struck a rock on Crane Lake early Saturday.

Authorities were called to Handberg’s Marina in Crane Lake at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday on a report of a boat crash with injuries, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office reported Sunday.

The boat “had been underway on Crane Lake when it struck a rock,” the Sheriff’s Office reported. The three occupants “were able to ‘limp’ the boat back” to the marina.

The occupants of the boat — identified by the Sheriff’s Office as Ronald Rutchasky, 46, of Buyck; Robert Sokoloski, 25, of Orr; and Andrea Sokoloski, 26, of Orr — were treated by Crane Lake first responders and transported by Orr Ambulance to Cook Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Nighttime operation and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors in the crash, the Sheriff’s Office reported; the crash remains under investigation.
