Several Ordean East students were accepted into the American Choral Directors' Association of Minnesota State 7-8 Honor Choirs. This year's State 7-8 SSA Honor Choir was conducted by Andrea Ramsey, a composer and guest conductor from Arkansas. Two of Ramsey's compositions were performed by this year's honor choirs, "Sanctus" and "Hallelujah for the Day." Ordean East seventh graders Addison Dunkin and Daisy Thralow, along with eighth-graders Josephine Geidner, Maija Knutson and Keegan McAuliffe, were selected for the choir.

The State 7-8 TTB Honor Choir was conducted by Steven Hoemberg, director of choral activities at Staples Motley Public Schools. Ordean East seventh grader Charlie Sunderland and eighth graders Blake Bortnem and Carter Rice were selected for the choir. Ordean East Middle School students were selected from a pool of more than 600 auditions statewide.

Accepted students worked on their own and with their middle school choir director Sheila Shusterich to prepare and memorize five songs each for an all-day festival and concert held Nov. 18 at St. Andrew's Church in Mahtomedi, Minn.

Girls' 7-8 concert repertoire included "The Tiger," " Had a Paint Box," "One Voice," "Sanctus" and "This is the Day."

Boys' 7-8 concert repertoire included "Joshua Fit the Battle of Jerico," "My Bonnie Anne Marie," "We Shall Not Sleep," "Hallelujah for the Day" and "Ballad of the Cross-Eyed Sailor."
